Derek has a specialist focus on governance and community wellbeing. He led a breadth of projects across local government focusing on strengthening accountability, engagement and stewardship. He has also worked closely with social enterprise and charities to enhance their commercial focus and ability to deliver sustainable growth. Derek designed a number of public/private partnership models for Amey, including the trading model for London Boroughs; the joint venture LLP propositions to North Lanarkshire Council on Roads and Housing; and the collaborative venture with Trafford Council in Health & Care.
Derek previously worked in public sector management consultancy for both KPMG and Brodies LLP, working on projects across the UK. Derek was part of the Best Value intervention teams at Barking & Dagenham, Inverclyde and West Dunbartonshire Councils. He also led independent evaluations of the Community Health and Care partnerships at West Lothian and East Renfrewshire.
